OPENING THE DOOR

This interactive webinar will help participants identify and manage patients presenting with alcohol, tobacco, and drug use (AOD) within the WQPHN catchment.

Participants will examine a detailed case study to develop skills in recognising mental health exacerbated by substance abuse, explore practical approaches, and build confidence in patient conversations.

Gain up to date knowledge on current guidelines, referral pathways and support services, while enhancing clinical skills and empowering participants to provide more comprehensive patient care.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

• Analyse the prevalence and impact of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (AOD) use within the Western Queensland practice population, to inform clinical decision-making, and population health planning
• Identify patients presenting with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions, ensuring a comprehensive, patient-centred approach to care
• Develop expertise and understand the benefits on the SBIRT framework (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment) in routine consultations to support early identification and intervention
• Identify and implement opportunistic screening and brief interventions to address AOD use, contributing to risk factor modification and preventive health strategies
