Advisory Groups

Assisting the Board in achieving its vision of Healthier Western Queensland Communities.

Care Governance Committee

The Care Governance Committee consists of members from clinical peak bodies and plays an important role in providing recommendations and input to the WQPHN Board of Directors, with a direct relationship with the three Primary Health Care Chapters.

The primary objective of the Committee is to assist the Board in achieving its vision of Healthier Western Queensland Communities, by ensuring that the services delivered or commissioned by WQPHN are provided in a safe, effective, and person-centred manner. It will focus on ensuring WQPHN facilitates effective, person-centred primary health care to improve the overall health of our population and reduce avoidable hospital presentations, aligned with the WQPHN Services Governance Domains of:

  • SAFE: Avoidable harm during the delivery of care and support services is eliminated.
  • EFFECTIVE: Appropriate and integrated care is delivered in the right way, at the right time, with the right outcomes for each consumer.
  • PERSON-CENTRED: People’s values, beliefs and their specific contexts and situations guide the delivery of care and organisational planning.

Consumer Advisory Council

The Consumer Advisory Council is made up of a diverse group of community representatives from across the Western Queensland region, to provide a community perspective to the WQPHN Board to inform the planning, evaluation and performance functions of the PHN.

The objectives of the Consumer Advisory Council are to work collaboratively with WQPHN staff and Care Governance Committee to advise the WQPHN Board of the community perspective in relation to service planning and design, service delivery, monitoring and evaluation.

Primary Health Care Chapters

Primary Health Care Chapter groups have been established in each of the three regions forming the WQPHN footprint (North West, Central West and South West). The Clinical Chapter is a collaborative and responsive group for health care in the region.

All WQPHN Primary Health Care Chapters include representation from a wide range of clinicians (including GPs) and are Chaired by respective leaders from each region.

Functions of the Primary Health Care Chapters:

  • To maintain detailed knowledge and map of the health and community services and programs operating in the region
  • Provide ongoing input and advice to the WQPHN Clinical Council on the health needs of the population of each region, including identified and emergent health issues at a local and regional level, service and system gaps and duplication
  • Contribute to the development of local strategies to improve the operation of the health care system in each region, and the overall health care system in Western Queensland
  • Contribute to the development of clinical care pathways that support patient centred care delivery and improved health outcomes
  • Contribute to strategies to improve population health literacy
  • Contribute to processes for the monitoring and review of health services and programs in meeting the needs of the (target) population.

Primary Health Care Chapters update the Care Governance Committee which in turn update the WQPHN Board regarding the key issues affecting the region, contracted services, activity plans and upcoming opportunities for clinical input.
