Trauma-Informed De-escalation (TIDE) - Varius dates

Hosted by

Building Safer General Practice Through Trauma-Informed Care

Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN), in partnership with GPEX, is delivering Trauma-Informed De-escalation (TIDE)—an innovative, evidence-based workshop designed for general practitioners and primary healthcare teams.

This practical training explores the impact of trauma on health, behaviour and patient engagement, while equipping participants with evidence-based communication and de-escalation strategies to create safer, more supportive healthcare environments.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Understand the impact of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on health, behaviour and patient engagement.

• Recognise early signs of distress and identify factors that contribute to escalation.

• Apply trauma-informed communication strategies that build trust, reduce conflict and minimise re-traumatisation.

• Use practical, evidence-based de-escalation techniques to improve safety for patients and staff.

• Strengthen psychological safety, reflective practice and strategies to prevent burnout and vicarious trauma.

• Apply trauma-informed principles through immersive AI and VR learning experiences.

Why attend?

TIDE provides healthcare professionals with practical skills they can apply immediately to improve patient engagement, reduce workplace aggression, strengthen team confidence and create psychologically safe, trauma-informed primary care environments. Participants will leave with evidence-based strategies that enhance both patient outcomes and workforce wellbeing, aligned with RACGP standards.
